The wine industry is booming in Sweden and there are many indications that it is here to stay. In this article, we sample drinks from some of the country's most exciting wineries.
TODAY THERE ARE ABOUT 50 commercial vineyards in Sweden; from the coast of Skåne in the south to the open landscapes of Södermanland as well as Öland and Gotland. Each region offers its own conditions for viticulture and creates unique wine experiences.
Most of the vineyards are located in Skåne, especially on the Kulla peninsula, Bjäre peninsula and Österlen, where around 30 vineyards account for around 80 percent of Swedish wine production. The mild climate, the long growing season and the lime-rich soil create very good conditions for viticulture.
Skane has in recent years established itself as one of Sweden's most important wine regions, and interest in wine tourism continues to grow. In northwestern Skåne, a wine route is now being planned where nine wineries between Helsingborg and Båstad are collaborating under the name Terra Skåne. Among the participants is Arilds Vingård on the Kulla peninsula, which is one of Sweden's largest wineries with around 30 hectares and over 135,000 vines, and Kullabergs Vineyard.
Swedish vineyards mainly grow the Solaris grape, a green grape that is well adapted to colder climates. The grape is resistant to fungal diseases, tolerant to cold and develops high sugar levels. When it comes to red wines and rosés, Rondo is the most common blue grape. Leon Millot, Cabernet Cortis, Phoenix and Ortega are also grown in several Swedish vineyards.
The range ranges from white, red and rosé to sparkling wines and fruit wines. Then yard sale was allowed in June 2025, interest in Swedish wine production has increased further. There is therefore much to suggest that more vineyards will be established in the coming years and that Swedish wine farmers will have an increasingly larger role in Swedish drinking culture.

ARILDS VINEYARD
Arilds Vingård on the scenic Kulla Peninsula is considered Sweden's largest vineyard. The facility covers approximately 30 hectares with over 135,000 vines and produces several different types of Swedish wine.
Visitors are offered wine tastings, walking tours and seasonal dining experiences. There are also accommodation options such as hotel rooms and glamping. Sustainability work is clearly present, including using excess heat from the fermentation process to heat parts of the facility.
The combination of well-developed winemaking, committed hosts and the dramatic nature of the Kulla Peninsula makes the winery a popular destination all year round.
The farm grows, among other things, solaris, muscaris, souvignier gris, cabernet cortis, pinot noir
précoce, felicia, villaris and cardinal soleil.

THE VINES GROW WITH THE SEA AS THEIR NEAREST NEIGHBOR AND WIND FACILITIES IN THE BACKGROUND
GUTES VINEYARD
At the far end of Näsudden, between Hablingbo and Fidenäs on southern Gotland, the vines grow with the sea as their closest neighbor and the wind turbines in the background. The location close to the sea and the chalky soil create good conditions for winegrowing. Here, the risk of frost is small and the long, bright summer days help the grapes to ripen slowly and develop fresh and elegant flavors.
Gute Vingård works with sparkling wine according to the traditional champagne method, something that is still relatively uncommon in Sweden. The wine fields that slope down towards the sea have been shaped by the exposed coastal climate for more than 20 years and contribute to the farm's characteristic style.
The farm also has a restaurant and hostel where the menus are based on local ingredients and seasonal flavors.

BLACKSTA VINEYARD
Blacksta Vingård is one of Sweden's first vineyards and was founded in 2000. The farm is beautifully located by Lake Långhalsen outside Flen in the heart of Sörmland, where winegrowing is combined with gastronomy and nature-based experiences.
The home-grown grapes are influenced by the bright Nordic summer nights, which gives the wines a fresh and distinctive character. The vineyard is particularly known for its award-winning ice wines and for growing grape varieties such as Vidal Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay.
The farm offers wine tastings, a restaurant, a farm shop, a bakery, a hotel and drinks produced in small-scale batches with ingredients from the farm's own farms and the surrounding area.

KULLABERG VINEYARD
Kullabergs Vingård has made a name for itself for its long-term quality work in both wine and craft beverages. Here, grapes are grown with a focus on biodiversity and sustainable production, while the farm experiments with new methods and grape varieties.
The farm's wines, ciders and distillates have received international attention. The flagship Immelen won The Swedish Wine Tasting and was also served as the main course at the Nobel Banquet in 2025 – an important milestone for Swedish wine.
Visitors can book tastings and guided tours where the work behind the production is presented up close. The farm also has the wine bar Skänken and a farm shop with wine and small-scale products from the farms. Kullabergs Vingård grows over 20 different grape varieties, including solaris, pinot nova, souvignier gris, cabaret noir, muscaris, donauriesling, merlot kanthus, rondo and regent.
