On the classic asphalt of Goodwood, surrounded by the coolness of spring and blooming daffodils, Maserati showcases its interpretation of “pure performance”. The air is crisp, almost raw in that typically English way, and a quiet sense of history rests over the open landscape. Some of motorsport's most iconic moments have unfolded here, and there's something special about getting to drive in a place where the past and present so palpably meet.

In a time where electrification is rapidly making cars quiet, there is also something almost unfamiliar about being met by a mechanical sound when the engine starts, that is not only heard but also felt – it vibrates.

IT IS NOT a rider who craves drama, it creeps up on you. Fast, fluid, technical without being over the top. A track that rewards rhythm rather than aggression. For that very reason, it also becomes a perfect stage for
to understand what Maserati MCPura actually is.
The name is new, but the foundation is familiar. The Maserati MCPura is a further development of the MC20, the car that in 2020 marked a clear shift for the Italian marque. Here, the focus has not been on inventing something new, but on refining, sharpening, and clarifying.
Behind the back sits the same heart as before., Maseratis self-developed Nettuno engine. A 3.0-litre V6 with twin turbochargers, born and built in Modena, with technology borrowed from Formula 1, producing 621 horsepower and 720 Nm. Impressive on paper, but that's not where the MCPura truly shines.

In an era where electrification is rapidly making cars silent, there's also something almost unfamiliar about being met by a mechanical sound when the engine starts, one that can not only be heard but also felt – it vibrates. A sound built up from the rear, through the specially developed exhaust system, where each pulse from the engine gains a distinct character. With the optional titanium racing exhaust system, hand-welded and developed for the track, the experience is sharpened further. It becomes rawer, more direct, almost unfiltered.

NeptuneThe engine has a distinct character in itself, but together with the exhaust system, it becomes something more. There's a rawness to the tone, especially as the revs climb, but at the same time a clarity that means every gear change, every burst of acceleration, is heard distinctly. It's not the volume that impresses, but the nuances. A sound that changes with load and revs, and which constantly reminds you that this is a car built with motorsport in its DNA.

Stepping into the MCPura is an experience in itself. The butterfly doors open up the car in a way that almost feels theatrical, yet functional at the same time. They expose the carbon fibre structure, revealing technique, make every entry part of the experience. It is a car that is not only beautiful from the side, but thoughtfully designed from every angle.
The open version, MCPura Sky, adds another dimension. The glass roof can shift from transparent to opaque in a second and retracts in twelve seconds. On this day, however, the roof remains closed, the weather not allowing for much else: light rain with strong wind, but the knowledge of how quickly the car can open up to the sky adds an extra dimension to the experience.

Goodwood is a track that demands respect. The short chicane before the start and finish brutally breaks the rhythm, forces down the pace, and immediately reveals the car's character. Braking, quick change of direction, back on the throttle. The Nettuno engine is not just powerful, it's alive. The response is immediate, almost instinctive. Barely a movement is required from the right foot before the car answers.
The steering is precise, almost surgical in its accuracy. You always know where you have the car, down to the millimetre. The chassis is stable but at the same time alive; it's never nervous, but always ready. It Carbon fibreThe monocoque chassis, developed together with Dallara, provides a low weight and a rigidity that is clearly noticeable in every movement.

Out of the curve, full throttle. The gearshift paddles click into the next gear with a precision that impresses. The eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox works lightning fast, but without feeling brutal. There is a softness in the way the power is delivered, even though the acceleration is sharp. It is precisely the contrast that defines Maserati: hard and sharp, but at the same time elegant. MCPura is intense, but controlled. Brutal, but never raw for the sake of it. There is always a balance.

The car sits low, holding the line without hesitation. Small movements suffice, every input provides immediate response. The brakes answer as precisely as Goose. Everything is refined. There is no delay, no filter in between
driver and car. Compared to Maserati's other model range, the difference becomes clear. There GranTurismo whereas the GranCabrio leans towards comfort and long-distance touring, the MCpurda feels like something else entirely. More focused. More direct.
Almost uncompromising, but without losing its elegance.

There is also a clear connection to Maserati's racing heritage in how the MC20 performs. It's not just about numbers or top speed, but about how the car responds to input. Everything feels direct, almost mechanical in its feedback. It requires small movements, tiny adjustments of the steering wheel, and the car responds without delay. That kind of precision is hard to fake and often comes from track racing experience.

At the same time, there is a balance in the car making it feel easy to drive. It invites rather than challenges, allowing you to push a little harder each lap. The interior reflects this. Alcantara dominates,
not just for looks but for function. The grip on the steering wheel, the support in the seat, all built to enhance the connection between driver and car. The new steering wheel, inspired by racing, is flat at the top, providing better visibility.

Outside the car, it is primarily the paintwork that catches the eye. The launch color AI Aqua Rainbow shifts in the light, almost like a prism. Against the grey British sky and the yellow daffodils along the track, the car takes on an almost surreal expression. It illuminates the surroundings without taking over.
History records more than one might first think. Maserati was founded in 1914 in Bologna by the Maserati brothers. One of them, Mario, was the artist in the family. He was the one who designed the logo, the trident, inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna. A landmark from the 16th century that still symbolizes strength and control today.
MCPura carry that legacy further. It is built in Modena, in the heart of Italy's motor region, but with its own voice. Less theatrical, more subtle. When the straight opens up on Goodwood and the car can stretch its legs, it's easy to understand what Maserati wants to say. It's not the numbers that define the car. It's the experience.
