A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph  

Revealed at Watches & Wonders 2023, Lange & Söhne’s Odysseus Chronograph signals a landmark in the brand’s history as its first self-winding automatic chronograph. The 42.5mm stainless steel case, paired with a steel bracelet, establishes both sporting credentials and aristocratic finishing.  

Designing and building a chronograph calibre is considered to be one of the greatest challenges in precision watchmaking. Only a few manufacturers possess the knowledge and ability to develop and craft such a complex movement. The Director of Product Development, Anthony de Haas, says:  

The Odysseus Chronograph transports the contemporary and one-of-a-kind design of the watch family to a new technical dimension. It meets all the requirements of a stopwatch suitable for many fields of application, without relinquishing the hallmarks of Lange precision watchmaking. 

At 14.2mm thick, the watch maintains comfort while delivering substantial wrist presence. The newly developed calibre L156.1, comprising 516 parts, powers a central chronograph minutes and seconds mechanism, along with a day and outsized date display. The dial details are nuanced: a black brass base rather than silver, with textured surface, white gold appliques, and concentric subsidiary seconds. Notably, chronograph pushers also set the calendar functions when the crown is pulled, showcasing Lange’s technical range.

Its limited run of 100 pieces adds to exclusivity, while the price, around €135,000, cements its standing as the modern benchmark for German watchmaking savoir-faire.
