Stephen Wilkes – exhibiting in Sweden

AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER STEPHEN WILKES IS EXHIBITING FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SUMMER
SWEDEN. HIS MOST ICONIC WORKS WILL NOW BE SHOWN AT THE PHOTOGALLERY IN HALMSTAD.

LONG EXPOSURES, and exciting motifs, from tapestries to elephants and abandoned houses are some of the factors that make Stephen Wilkes an interesting photographer. This summer he is checking in Halmstad and showing images from three different series: Day to Night, Tapestries and Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom.
– We at The Photo Gallery are very proud that we now represent Stephen Wilkes and that he
during the summer will exhibit their fantastic works with us in Halmstad, says Pamela Hanné, CEO of
The Photo Gallery.

DAY TO NIGHT

The series Day to Night, 2009 – 2022, is the most prominent of the projects. Here we find 60 panoramic images of cities and landscapes. The images are photographed with a fixed camera and over a period of up to 30 hours to capture the fleeting moments. These images have then been merged into a single image. Photos in the series come from, among others, the Serengeti, Blue Lagoon,
Grand Canyon, Coney Island, Trafalgar Square and more.

TAPESTRIES
The Tapestries series began in parallel with Day to Night, when Stephen Wilkes, during a trip to Italy,
visited the Vatican Museums and was fascinated by the tapestries there. He began experimenting with exposing the same image multiple times. This series consists of a mixture of urban and natural images that convey emotions and moods.
