We've adorned ourselves with the moon-white gleam of silver for all eternity, and this autumn it's trendier than ever. Let yourself be inspired by Art Nouveau-influenced shapes and strict minimalism. Gemstones and enamel make the silver shimmer a little extra.

City of silver

Giulia Savinos Chain earrings forming patterns of city maps: New York; Berlin, Nice, Stockholm, Vadstena. All on a scale of 1:20,000. A fun and stylish idea that is also easy to wear. Here are the Rome earrings, price 1,500 kronor.

Mistress of Silver

Theresia Hvorslev is one of the country's foremost silversmiths and her jewellery, and she has won countless awards for her designs. Her silver and gold jewellery alike are exhibited worldwide. The ”Peacock” ring, among other pieces, has been acquired by the National Museum, prize 4,500 kronor.

Art nouveau 2.0

The jewellery collection ”Moonlight Grapes” from George Jensen are sculpturally elegant and playful at the same time. The inspiration comes from the beautiful silver fruit bowl with hanging grapes in Art Nouveau style (or Jugend as we say in Sweden), which George Jeansen created in 1920. The price for the necklace is 6,250 kr. The jewellery is also available in gold and with diamonds.

Natural beauty

The button coral found along the coast of Gotland has become the goldsmith Annika Gustavssons Signum. Here long earrings in silver., 4,900 kronor.

Stress less

The surprising details are the dragonfly Anette Heymanns signum. The elegantly beautiful silver ring is also perfect as an anti-stress ring: The gold detail adorned with diamonds can be spun around… ”Gold Circle Deluxe” with a total of 0.10 ct of white diamonds costs 9,900 kronor. With brown diamonds £8,900. The ring can also be ordered entirely in gold.

Groundbreaking silver

Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübes The pleasing, groundbreaking design paved the way for women to buy their own jewellery. An idea that lives on to this very day, for example her Dew Drop series. Here a necklace with rock crystal designed for Georg Jensen.

Liberatingly beautiful

Jeweller Anette Roxnäs, who runs Etena Jewellery & Design, ..., always has a stylish smile ready in their design. Her signature ring ”Stand Alone” is available in different finishes and also in gold. Voyage asked her to explain why she likes silver: – Silver is liberating. It provides more room for play and trying out ideas. With gold and platinum, one has to be much more meticulous regarding the weight, and that is directly reflected in the price. Silver is, at least for me, more about ”you take what you need” and get started. Saws, plenty of files and hammers are brought out onto the workbench. Silver is also softer and easier to shape. Silver is lovely and fantastically beautiful!

Magic with Enamel

A silver lining

• Sterling silver is the most common silver quality in jewellery and consists of 92.5 percent silver, or 925 parts per thousand. It is stamped with the designation ”925”.

• The stamp is no guarantee that the silver is genuine. A reputable manufacturer also stamps their work with a maker's mark or control stamp.

• Silver discolours easily; silver oxidises, but it is primarily sulphur that affects silver, not oxygen. Sulphur is present everywhere to some extent: in the air, in paints, in food, on the skin...

• Some people exude more sulphur than others – this is the reason why silver discolours your skin. Medication and metabolism can also have an effect.

• Store silver jewellery in a dry, dark place, preferably separately and ideally in airtight packaging.

• Discoloured? Polish the jewellery with, for example, a silver polishing cloth or silver polish. A last resort is ketchup or toothpaste (which can, however, scratch the silver).
