A furious crescendo of sound, movement and emotion is what Pagani offers. The car brand whose vision is to unite technology and art. Join VOYAGE on a test drive of the latest model: Huayra Roadster BC in Tuscany.

PAGANI AUTOMOBILI WAS FOUNDED IN 1992 by the Argentine-Italian engineer Horacio Pagani. His vision was to unite the technologically advanced with artistic forms. The result is car models such as the Zonda, Huayra and the latest model Utopia – all created with a wealth of detail and craftsmanship that few can match. At Pagani, every screw, seam and body panel is an expression of passion and precision.
This article is about Huayra Roadster BC – not just any Huayra, but the most uncompromising version of the model. The suffix BC stands for Benny Caiola, Pagani’s first customer and close friend. The BC versions are built as a tribute to him: with even lower weight, higher performance and a sense of total exclusivity.
My own story with Pagani goes back to 2005, when I first visited the factory in San Cesario sul Panaro. That time I test drove a Zonda and met Horacio himself. I clearly remember his calm and presence – every word was well thought out, just like his cars. Since then I have returned several times, this was my fourth visit. On this day, the Swedish flag flies outside the factory – a warm and personal welcome that only Pagani can provide.

After a walking tour in the clinically clean factory, where every tool is laid out as if it were on display in a museum, the car is driven up. In other factories you get the key and a contract. Here, when the value is around four to four and a half million euros, Pagani test driver Alberto Scilla accompanies you. He goes through the car's functions and controls. When you listen to him, you can tell that he doesn't just work with cars – he lives them.
When the Huayra Roadster BC was launched, the price tag was just over three million euros, but given the extremely limited production andPaganis With its growing cult status, its value has risen significantly on the collector's market. Only 40 examples of the Agani Huayra Roadster BC were built, and each car is practically unique. The combination of advanced materials such as carbon fiber and titanium, hand-crafted details and the AMG-built V12 engine means that the value lies not only in the performance, but also in the uncompromising craftsmanship and artistic expression.

The Huayra marked the beginning of a new era for Pagani after the Zonda. At its heart is a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 from Mercedes-AMG, built exclusively for Pagani. The body is made of carbo-titanium, a weave of carbon fiber and titanium that provides extreme rigidity at a low weight – a perfect example of Pagani’s philosophy of merging technology and art.
The car was also the first hypercar to feature independent active aerodynamics. Four movable flaps – two at the front, two at the rear – adjust the car’s downforce in real time based on steering wheel angle, throttle input and G-forces. Horacio once described his vision as ”"a piece of art that moves with purpose"” – and that's exactly what you feel behind the wheel.

When I put me in the Huayra Roadster BC I immediately feel how alive the car is. I start carefully in Comfort mode, where the traction control system is fully active. After a few kilometers I switch to Sport, the car immediately becomes more alert. The test driver smiles and says: ”Try Race.” He seems confident, perhaps because of my firm ”quarter-in-three” grip on the steering wheel. He nods slightly and says:
- You hold the wheel like someone who knows what he's doing.
I turn the small knob on the steering wheel – Pagani’s own version of Ferrari’s manettino – and select Race mode, where the systems are only partially active. The response is brutal, the gears snap in with mechanical precision, and when I let off the gas, the exhaust pipes explode – unburned drops of petrol that ignite with a sound as much art as power. It’s a furious crescendo of sound, movement and emotion.
The Huayra BC, launched in 2016, took everything a step further. The twin-turbocharged The V12 delivers 764 horsepower and 1,000 Nanometers, while the dry weight is only 1,218 kilograms – figures that apply to the Huayra BC version, not the later Roadster BC. The power-to-weight ratio is almost unreal.

Three years later, In 2019, the Huayra Roadster BC arrived – an even more refined and exclusive version. The engine
was updated to 802 horsepower and 1,050 Nanometers, the chassis was reinforced for the open construction and the aerodynamics were refined to create enough ground pressure to keep the car glued to the asphalt even at high speeds. Weight is kept down thanks to Pagani's own developed carbon-triax, up to 50% lighter and 20% stronger than normal Carbon fibre. The gearbox, a seven-speed sequential Xtrac, is deliberately single-clutch – an uncompromising solution to save weight and preserve the raw, mechanical feel.
The aerodynamics are a work of art in themselves. A new front splitter, stronger side skirts, a fixed rear wing and a huge diffuser give a dramatic presence. Even the exhaust system, in titanium with its four central pipes (plus two pipes integrated into the diffuser), is part of the airflow – an example of how Pagani treats the entire car as a sculpture in motion.
After a short drive up to Passo dell'Abetone, in the Tuscan mountains, we stop for lunch. There, in the silence after the adrenaline, Alberto Scilla and I talk about the experience. He says that he has sometimes had to ask customers and journalists to slow down, out of pure fear for both the car and his own life – but with me behind the wheel he felt safe. It's warm.
This is not a mass-produced car built by robots. Every Pagani is a piece of art, signed by the people who created it. A car with soul, built with respect for the material, the technology and the person behind the wheel.
To drive Pagani Huayra Roadster BC is not like test driving a car – it's like borrowing a piece of the artist's soul. And if I had 4.5 million euros lying around, I would know exactly what to do with it.
